Die Damen und Herren Daffke
Das gibt's nur einmal, das kommt nicht wieder!
Die Damen und Herren Daffke open the doors to the hidden Berlin entertainment club of the 20s. The audience experience an evening as intoxicating as a glass of absinthe and as wild as a dance on the volcano. The Daffke’s tell about a time of new departures and liberalization. After the end of the German Empire, a spirit of optimism prevailed in the young Republic: out of the corset and into the Charleston dress. But all dizzying heights come to an end. In 1929 the stock market crash and the rise of the National Socialists. Many artists leave their native Germany; the new desirable country is America.
The Daffke’s venture into a balancing act between light music and political songs. With a variety of musical mosaic pieces, they create a multilayered picture of the 20s which are not so dissimilar to our present times…
