With their musical socialisation between classical, hip-hop, rock and pop, what jazz means for the Horst Hansen Trio is the freedom to combine these genres in their playing and create their own sound from them. “Pop is popular because it’s mostly accessible and easy to understand. We want to show that Jazz can do that too. That means letting emotions run free instead of making music over-complicated,” says saxophonist Manfred. There’s no question – the idea works. The Trio’s music combines playful wit, exquisite virtuosity, individual expressivity and entertainment.
