Tamala, meaning “travelers,” embodies the spirit of musical exploration, blending kora, violin, harmonica, and voice in a seamless dialogue between tradition and innovation, strength and subtlety, dream and reality.
In their third album, Diboli, the quartet pays tribute to West Africa’s rich musical heritage, connecting past and present while honoring the work of musicians whose names have often been forgotten. Each composition reflects ancestral wisdom and a deep spiritual link with the past.
Mola Sylla’s commanding voice captivates with emotion and nuance, Bao Sissoko’s kora displays rhythmic mastery, Wouter Vandenabeele’s violin brings a contemporary European touch, and Olivier Vander Bauwede’s harmonica adds a warm, expressive layer. Together, they create a transcendent sound that travels across continents and generations.
