Drumming out of the box

In Drumming out of the box, Schlagwerk Voermans gradually transforms mysterious boxes into sources of sound from which instruments, rhythms, and musical ideas bubble forth. The result is a universe of sound ranging from claves to conga, from drums to bells and marimba. The duo elicits fascinating sounds and rousing rhythms from percussion instruments as well as the smallest everyday objects. Between pieces, Maren and Mark Voermans chat about their experiences as percussionists, have rhythms to imitate in their repertoire, and find plenty of opportunities to see the world with different ears. That is the motto of this enchanting duo. And it becomes clear that concertgoers of all ages will go home with a new ear when even lunch becomes a percussion ensemble.
