It is the largest trade fair for stage productions, music and events in the German-speaking world. Every year in January, the cultural sector looks forward to Freiburg when international artists and ensembles from the fields of performing arts, music and street theatre present live excerpts from their current programmes to the professional audience.
In addition, numerous exhibitors present themselves in the exhibition halls on more than 6,000m² and market their artists and inform about the latest trends and developments in the cultural sector. A varied supporting programme rounds off the cultural programme of the IKF on the three days.
The jury and the FREIBURGER LEITER
Since the IKF is not a festival but a trade fair, artists must apply for a live performance, also called a showcase.
A jury of experts, which changes every year, selects the artists and groups from all the applications submitted, who can then present themselves live for 20 minutes on one of the stages to the professional audience.
There is a separate jury for each of the three areas of performing arts, music and street theatre, with the jury members representing the different areas of the respective genre.
All artists and ensembles selected for a live performance also have the opportunity to be nominated for the FREIBURGER LEITER, the prize of the IKF and to be voted for by the audience.
